Dobrý den

Day 1 a has begun 20 minutes late. The setting is pleasant, but smallish and the weather is terrible - as made for staying indoors.

66 players will start today, eight tables, playing 8 or 9 levels. The first is for 45 minutes and then the level duration will be 60 minutes.

The starting points are 10 000 and the first level is 25/50. So far we have spotted finns Aki Pyysing, Jani Karke and Jukka Juvonen.

Shuffle up and deal.

Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Inevitable Finn' has multiplied.

Even more finns around: Niklas Mullo, Sami Mäkinen, Aulis Kinnunen, Katarina Pelkonen, Mikko Hatakka, Jani Kainulainen, Mika Alanen. Guess that makes a grand total of 16 finnish players. We also spotted around 10 swedes and some players from Russia, Israel, Norway and 2 italians, Jeff Sarwer from Canada and the brit Nicky McMeehan.

The lineup makes it something of a Sweden-Finland match.

Last minutes of the first level, some additional players have shown up, the grand total being 72. Petr Pesko was the first to double up. His opponent went all-in on a 8K72 board, holding 72. Petr had - of course - KK. The hapless opponent still has 200 points.

Blinds 50/100. One more finn, and an unlucky one to boost. Henri Koivisto gor a set of sixes on the flop, the chips went in on the 10 turn - but against a pair of tens in the hole. Henri was left with 300 ponts. Luckily doubled to 700 since then.

Slow going so far. Second player out was Yngve Steen, who went all in on a flushdraw after the flop. His opponent had hit his ace and the flush didn't materilize. Yngve sends greetings to his homefolks. Jeff Sarwer, way up on the EMOP leaderboard, sits opposite Aki Pyysing, whose wife is at the top of the rankings. Hmm...
